The 2008 A5 is powered by 3.2 FSI V6 engine with the new Audi Valvelift System, and produces 265 hp at 6500 rpm and 243 ft.-lbs. of torque between 3250-5000 rpm. The S5 has a 4.2 FSI V8 engine making 354 hp at 6800 rpm and 325 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3500 rpm. Both engines give the new coupe breath-taking acceleration. The A5 takes just 5.8 seconds from 0-60 mph, while the S5 is an even faster 4.9 seconds.
The new A5 coupe is more than just a stylish new addition to the Audi range: It debuts a brand new vehicle architecture that will underpin some of Audi’s most important models over the coming decade.
The A5 is built on a platform known internally at Audi as B8. The B8 platform retains the traditional Audi longitudinal engine/front drive layout, but a radical new drivetrain and front suspension design gives the A5 similar proportions, and – in all-wheel drive Quattro configuration – similar handling to a conventional rear drive vehicle, according to Audi engineers.
Inside, A5 and S5 models combine space for four adults with up to 455 litres of luggage space in the metre-wide load bay, which is further expandable by releasing the split/folding rear seat back rest.
Optional features also include a panoramic electric sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen audio system delivering 500 watts of music power via 14-speakers, the Audi Parking System Advanced with rear-mounted camera and Adaptive Light swivelling headlights for improved corner illumination. The DVD satellite navigation option is also offered in conjunction with a new, even more intuitive version of the already acclaimed Multi Media Interface (MMI) controlling the car’s infotainment systems.
